This year I am looking to raise funds for the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline charity by running the Great North Run on September 20th 2009
The Chernobyl nuclear disaster was the biggest nuclear accident ever. Wind carried the nuclear cloud north over Belarus where 70% of the radiation fell. 20 years after the accident, people are still consuming contaminated food and water. Children are particularly susceptible to radiation induced illnesses such as leukemia, thyroid cancer and tumours, with these illnesses still on the increase. The charity brings child victims of the accident to the UK for recuperative breaks of one month aswell as supporting families in Belarus through provision of medicines and medical equipment.
In 2009 16 children came to spend a month in Sheffield. The aim is to bring another 16 children in 2010. Please can I ask you sponsor me to help with this worthwhile cause.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Chernobyl Children's Lifeline will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
