We lead such privileged lives and feel extremely lucky to be planning such a fantastic wedding with our families and friends in an amazing venue. We want to give something back. St Mungo's carries out life changing work for homeless people in London and the best wedding present for us would be to contribute to this important cause.
St Mungo's carries out a wide range of activities, including:
· Providing emergency services (shelters, hostels and outreach teams who work on the streets with people sleeping rough).
· Supporting homeless people in their recovery, helping people tackle the root problems that led to their homelessness e.g. through drug and alcohol treatment, and mental health care.
· Equipping people for employment and enjoyable relationships. Their semi-independent housing projects mean nearly 700 people are gaining confidence every day in their independent living skills.
· Preventing homelessness. St Mungo’s work with vulnerable people - from former rough sleepers in their new homes, to ex-offenders with mental health problems, to street beggars - to make positive changes in their lives.
Some examples of how your donations will make a difference:
· £10 – could provide a birth certificate, enabling a client to access healthcare and accommodation.
· £15 – could pay for art therapy, paying for materials for someone to take part in an art class, helping them to learn new skills and rebuild their confidence.
· £26 – could pay for independent living training, providing a two-hour session with a Lifeskills Worker, helping people learn important skills such as budgeting, healthy eating and tenancy issues.
· £35 – Could buy a gardening tool kit, giving people the clothing and tools to take part the “Putting Down Roots” gardening project. This year the volunteers once again helped create a silver medal award-winning garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
· £50 – Could pay for a safe warm bed and a fresh new start. St Mungo’s helps to put homeless people into emergency shelters, providing access to a hot meal, warm bed and vital healthcare.
· £50 – could pay for a day’s literacy training
· £100 - could buy the tools and clothing necessary for a homeless person to start a new job
· £450 - Would provide a computer enabling residents to read, learn and communicate with others
· £1,500 - Ensures one homeless person is given full support for a year to help find and maintain a job
As you can see, St Mungo’s does important work and we would be honored to support them, especially at a time when government funding for initiatives is difficult to secure.
Thank you and we look forward to celebrating with you!
