Story

UPDATE 31/08: The New York City Marathon is now just two months away. Please help me to raise £7000 to support the incredible work of Macmillan Cancer Support- I promise to actually do this one, now that my leg isn't broken* (*as a medical professional, my sister says you can't call a stress fracture a 'broken leg', but I stand by it)

UPDATE: Hi everyone. Firstly, a massive thanks for your support so far. We've raised an incredible amount for Macmillan, the event in February was a roaring success, and I've been astonished and touched by everyone's overwhelming generosity so far.

Unfortunately, after devoting a great deal of time and effort into training for this marathon (apologies to my friends and family for talking about NOTHING ELSE for the last five months), I have had to pull out due to a fractured shin. I was really hoping to still be able to walk/ jog the marathon, but after extensive physiotherapy, acupuncture, scans, crutches and so on and so forth, I am going to have to admit defeat.

The GOOD NEWS is that the wonderful team at Macmillan have allowed me to roll my sponsorship forward to November's New York Marathon, which I am running for them, and I do hope you'll all understand and be happy with this. As such, I have raised my fundraising target to £7000, and will put on another, even bigger fundraising event later this year.

As many of you will know, I am absolutely gutted about having to pull out of the London Marathon. The training, fundraising, and limping have pretty much taken over my life for the past five months, and it feels horrendous to now have to stand back and watch the race happen without me.

Thank you for your understanding, and here's to NY 2012.

Hi guys,

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page, you don't have to read this whole bit, but you might want further convincing, or to know why on earth I've decided to put myself through 26.2 agonizing miles.

To many of you (myself included), the idea of me running an actual real life marathon is completely ludicrous. That said, it is happening, and any support you could give for an absolutely brilliant cause would be really appreciated.

I've vaguely considered running a marathon for a few years now, but have always managed to talk myself out of it. However, this year, through some very sad news, I found the incentive I needed to actaully give it a go.

My Grandfather (Gramps) very sadly passed away last month from cancer. He wasn't very old, and was one of the good guys, a real rock for the whole family, and a man with the most wonderful values. I finally realised first hand how quickly and how viciously cancer can affect our loved ones and our families, but through the whole process Macmillan were there, supporting Gramps and the rest of the family.

Macmillan are a fantastic charity who are so incredibly important in helping those living with cancer through every step, whether that be through emotional support, their amazing nursing staff, financial aid, or practical advice. I would urge you to look at the brilliant work they do if you need more convincing that this is a cause worth donating to.

I will be trying to raise AT LEAST £2500 for Macmillan before the London Marathon in April 2012. I know it's a big ask, but between us we can do it, right?

Any support you can give will be hugely appreciated. Thanks for reading this, lots of love xxxx
