Story
Hello! Thanks for visiting my page.
I am setting myself the challenge of running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for Epilepsy Research UK who I have supported for the last couple of years.
Epilepsy Research UK fund ground-breaking independent research into the causes, treatment and prevention of epilepsy with the aim of identifying new means to control the condition, improve treatment and quality of life for those with epilepsy, and perhaps ultimately find a cure.
Epilepsy Research UK is a charity close to my heart. In 2010, I lost my childhood friend, Sophie (pictured above) to an epilepsy-related accident.
Epilepsy Research UK are currently funding a major study into the risk factors for deaths of adults with epilepsy.
Over 600,000 people in the UK have a diagnosis of epilepsy - that's 1 in every 103 people - and about 30% of these people cannot control their seizures by medication. Even with control of seizures, life for people with epilepsy can be unpredictable and restricted. Every year about 1,100 people die as a result of epilepsy.
The money I raise for Epilepsy Research will be linked to Sophie's memorial fund. More details can be found here: https://www.epilepsyresearch.org.uk/memorial-funds/sophie-hannon/
Through JustGiving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed directly to Epilepsy Research UK. JustGiving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this which means your funds can go further.
I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
Georgie
