Great North Run 2015 · 13 September 2015 ·

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

My £400 target is specific - this is the actual amount needed to fund one young person being able to attend a "Find Your Sense of Tumour" conference.  This is a 3-4 day weekend giving young people who have, or have had cancer in the last five years the chance to get together, partaking in activities, talks, talent shows, parties and "amazing company".

Someone who attended this conference last year said "When I was going through treatment, I felt and looked awful.  Although my friends were great, none of them really understood what it was like for me".  He then went on to say: "On attending the Find Your Sense of Tumour conference, I spent three days knowing that all the other people of my age there had been through, or were going through Cancer like me.  This put a great deal of hope back into my life".  Says it all really.......

I was lucky enough to be in the crowd when Stephen Sutton made his wonderful and most inspirational speech in front of 4,000 plus in the O2 in January 2014.

I was moved to tears by his lust for life, his never-give-up attitude and his unselfish determination to make sure that those who were suffering (as he was) were given the best chance.

Two of the units local to me are:

The Great North Children's Hospital

Ward 4, Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle is for 13-18 year olds and has 10 in-patient beds including 4 transitional beds. All bedrooms are equipped with soft furnishings, bespoke furniture, TV, DVD and gaming facilities, and there is dedicated Teenage Cancer Trust Wifi with laptops provided.

The Freeman Hospital

Ward 34, Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle is for 18 -24 year olds and has 8 in-patient beds.

Please give what you can - I am grateful for any donations teeny or massive!!!!

Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to providing expert care and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’. They treat them as young people first, cancer patients second and everything they do aims to improve their quality of life and chances of survival. Teenage Cancer Trust rely on donations to fund their vital work.

Help transform the lives of young people with cancer by donating towards my Great North Run challenge.

Thank you!
