Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am a History teacher in Worcestershire and a resident of Barbourne and am therefore aware of the fast approaching anniversary of the Battle of Gheluvelt which gave our beautiful city park the name. Myself and a group of friends are aiming to mark the 100th anniversary of such an important battle by undertaking a sponsored cycle from Gheluvelt Park in Worcester to the site of the battle in Belgium!

Our plan is to spend four days riding, arriving at the site on 31st October which is the anniversary of the battle. Details of the route that we will take are outlined below:

Day 1 Tuesday 28th October Gheluvelt Park, Worcester - Oxford (62 miles)
Day 2 Wednesday 29th October Oxford to Reigate (79 miles)
Day 3 Thursday 30th October Reigate to Calais (87 miles cycling)
Day 4 Friday 31st October Calais to Gheluvelt (58 miles)

We are raising funds for Acorms Children's Hospice which has a centre based in Worcester. Acorns supports children and young people who are not expected to reach adulthood and require specialist care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Acorns is currently supporting around 640 children and nearly 900 families, including those who are bereaved and desperately needs help with funding. Hopefully this cycle ride will provide a valuable contribution to this need, as well as highlighting an important event in history which is so closely connected to our city.
