Story

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

To my family, friends and colleagues I have decided to take to the road and see how far my legs will carry me. Hopefully all the way!! Myself and Laney (Mark Lane) plan to run two Marathons in 7 days!! It is funny because i have been told that even the most experienced of distance runners would not put themselves through this, not to mention the fact that i am not actually built for distance running and consider myself to be a '60 metre dash' kind of runner. It does sound a little crazy, but there you go. So, the plan of action is we will be running the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 18th April 2010 and then the London Marathon on Sunday 25th April 2010, amassing a whopping 52.4 miles. This is going to take a huge effort, especially after the Christmas binge, but I am looking forward to pounding the pavement until I achieve it.

I will be running in the memory of my father, Martin.

In November 1997 my father died of Non - Hodgkins Lymphoma. He showed amazing courage during his battle with cancer and still managed to keep myself and my mum laughing and upbeat even in the worst of times for him. He has been an inspiration to me and I will never forget all the times we shared together as a family. I feel lucky to have had a father like him for 12 years of my life and when I hear stories from my mother about their life together and from times with his closest friends it makes me feel very proud. I miss him greatly and I hope he would be proud to see me taking on this challenge for him and an unbelievable charity, The Lymphoma Association.

There are many people, both patients and their families, who live with the effects of Lymphoma each day. The Lymphoma Association provides accurate medical information and emotional support to those people to help them understand this disease and face their own personal journey. For many, the first they hear of Lymphatic cancer is on diagnosis, a fact that only adds to the anxiety they feel. My aim is to raise as much money as possible in my Dad’s memory to help with this valuable work.

I ask you all to donate what you can to this fantastic charity. You will be making a real difference to the lives of those who have suffered with the disease and those who have seen a loved one go through it. So please, dig deep. Every donation will make an impact.

Thank you,

Giles.
