Story
On Sunday 13th May, I cycled in an event appropriately called the Hampshire Hilly Hundred. 100 miles, with the minor matter of 7000ft, or a Ben Nevis and a half of hills. It took me 6 hrs 37 mins and involved at least a packet of Jaffa cakes to fuel me.
Through generous sponsorship of my efforts many people have supported the Fragile X Society, and if you are visiting this page for the first time, you can still donate, in the knowledge that I have suffered already so you have got your money's worth!
Fragile X syndrome is the most common inherited cause of emotional, learning and physical disability. My family have unknowingly been carriers of Fragile X for some generations, but it is in the last generation, particularly in my nephew Alessandro, that it has manifested itself in a particularly debilitating way.
The last 10 years have seen considerable increase in awareness and medical understanding of the syndrome, but research is still at an early stage. Alessandro and his family put a lot into helping improve understanding of Fragile X and particpating in medical research programmes, and any help you can give would be appreciated.
I hope you can take the time to make a donation, but equally importantly read some of the information on the society's website http://fragilex.org.uk/.
