Story

Well I did it!!

I am proud to say that I completed the Virgin London Marathon in 3 hrs 49 mins 1 sec!!! It was a fantastic experience that I thoroughly enjoyed (although mile 16/17 was hard going). Unfortunately my mum, dad and Rachael did not manage to get back from Barbados in time to see me run, but Andrew, Harry, Zoe and Lucy did a great job of supporting me (see photos).

I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you who sponsored me, as you can see I have well exceeded my target and I could not have one this without all of your very generous donations.

Many of you knew James, many didn't, but all together we have raised a fantastic amount of money in his memory and for that I am sure that he would be proud.

Thankyou so much, Gill xxxxx

Many of you will have had the privilege to know my brother James Fisher. I am sure you will remember him as the fun loving, kind, funny and generous person that he was. James always had a smile for everyone and hopefully the memories you have of him are making you smile right now.

For those of you who didn't, please read on and let me tell you about James and the reason I am running The Virgin London Marathon 2010 in his memory.

In August 2000 tragically, James lost his battle with liver cancer, aged just 25. In spite of his age, it was actually a rare childhood cancer which had laid dormant for years and surfaced when he was 23. Due to the type of cancer, James was treated at St. James's Hospital in Leeds, on the children's ward and teenage unit. As you can imagine as a family we spent an awful lot of time at his bedside, in fact during his last week, I stayed there permanently.

It was during this time that I got an insight into some of the fantastic work that the charity Candlelighters does. Candlelighters is a charity dedicated to combatting childhood cancer, leukaemia and serious blood disorders and making the lives of children and their families more bearable. You can find out more about the great work that Candlelighters does by visiting their website http:/candlelighters.org.uk/

We miss James so much and to be able to give something back in his memory means so much to me and I would love to raise as much as possible for this great cause.

So James- I bet you never thought that I would do something like this! - well I am here to prove you wrong and hopefully make you proud xx
