Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I want to take on this challenge to help raise awareness and much needed funding for the great work Cancer Research do.

Cancer paid an unwelcome visit to our family at Christmas, when a close family member was diagnosed with cancer, shocking and frightening us all. Hopefully it was caught early, treated, dealt with and it never returns.

I hear every day, new stories where people's lives are touched by cancer. Relatives, friends, colleagues - young people (some very young), people of all ages being newly diagnosed with a very scary and unpredictable disease.

However, when it 'lands on your own doorstep' It makes you look at life and take stock of what's important, so I have decided I want to help as much as I can to support Cancer Research and in taking on this challenge, also improve my own health. Having read up on the triggers and lifestyle choices that can increase your risk of developing cancer, I realise that being overweight puts me in a high risk category ... so it's a win win in my opinion.

My pledge is that "This time next year - by 12th January 2018 - one year since I turned 50 - I will have lost 6 stone in weight".  I have been inspired to make this pledge by guests on Davina McCall's TV programme and by people's before and after stories on Weight Watchers and Slimming World.

If they can do it, I can...

I would be very grateful if my friends and family as well as friends of friends and family could sponsor me by donating to Cancer Research and also share my page. No donation amount is too small as every penny in the fight against cancer helps.

I will post regular updates on my progress and at the end of my challenge, I will proudly post my before and after photos as well as how much I have raised for Cancer Research.
