<p>Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!</p> <p>Through this page I am hoping to raise money to support the summer education programme run by The Balkans Peace Park Project (B3P) in the remote mountain communities of Northern Albania.&nbsp; In July 2012 I will be returning to the remote mountain coummunity of Thethi to work as a volunteer teacher and intend to use music to teach English to children aged 4-12 years.&nbsp; The money raised will help resource the project and will be used to provide things as diverse as pens, desks, books, toilet paper, basic percussion instruments, paper, photocopying and accommodation for teaching staff! Last summer as a result of money raised by B3P we were able to install a flushing toilet in the school - something that was appreciated by all involved!!</p> <p>The children of Thethi have limited educational opportunities as the school in the village does not operate for much of the year and is often in a semi-derelict state with no resources, desks, electricity or teachers.&nbsp; This, coupled with poverty and poor infrastructure has pushed many communities like Thethi to the brink of survival.&nbsp; B3P through its work is helping to reverse this situation, and its summer education programme has been at the centre of this process. English language skills are helping the younger generation to participate in eco-tourism which has been vital to these communities&nbsp; economic survival.</p> <p>My work in Thethi last summer showed that music is a fantastic, life-enhancing means through which a second languge can be learnt.&nbsp; Its use produced highly enthusiastic and motivated learners and engendered a great sense of community and cooperation between a diverse range of children.&nbsp; I hope that through my work in Thethi the children will not only acquire valuable English langugage skills but will learn the importance of tolerance, cooperation and respect, as well as a life-long love of music!</p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
