Story

Dear all,

WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!  on 25th April, we (Kev Clift & Gilly B) ran the London marathon.  Thank you to e'one for your support, we couldn't have done it without all your donations & words of encouragement.

The charity we are running for is RAPt (Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners trust). The Patron of the charity is Sir Anthony Hopkins, someone who has seen himself first hand the efects of alcoholism, & who recognises the value in providing this service. The key aspect of this charity is to help reduce crime.Reducing crime means reducing the number of victims & therefore creates a better society & local community.

Given our professions, we see on a daily basis the impact of drugs and alcohol addiction on individuals, and moreover victims of crime. This charity aims to reduce crime by helping prisoners to turn their lives around.  50% of those in prison are drug addicts and at any one time 1/3 of addicts will be in prison. The total costs to the economy of problem drug users has been estimated at about £15.4bn per year or £44,000 per user.  Prison is an ideal time for offenders to break the cycle of addiction, crime and imprisonment. Many use this as a reminder of the consequences of their addiction to make a determined effort to change their lifestyles.

RAPt relies on the generosity of charitable trusts and foundations, corporate partners and private individuals to allow us to continue our valuable work. Addiction is a disease that affects thousands of people from all walks of life but RAPt has chosen to help those caught in the criminal justice system. These men and women have proved that, with our help, they can pull themselves out of the chaos of crime and drugs to lead happy productive lives. This work relies on charitable donations.

Any help you could provide us with would be greatly appreciated & make the pain all wirth while.

Gillian & Kev x
