Story

So then...You'd think the altitude sickness up Kilimanjaro would have put me off future charity challenges?! That's what I thought when I was 5,895m high on the 'roof of Africa' - feeling like what I can only describe as massively hungover! It was not a pleasant feeling!

But on the way down from the top - the reality of what I'd just done began to sink in - yes my head was pounding, yes I was seeing things, yes I was fainting and yes my legs were like jelly - but, YES! I'D MADE A DIFFERENCE!

The year leading up to the climb, I fundraised like mad in order to raise enough money to make a difference to people across the world. And was the effort of the fundraising (on top of a full-time job & several other part-time jobs) and the pain of the climb worth it? YES! It completely was. I had managed toput a smile back on someone's face.

And so...as mad as it seems...I'd love to do it again.

This time, in February 2012, I will be cycling 400km across Kenya. I will be joined by my step mama Gina who is eager to saddle up and make a difference. We will be cycling up to 70miles a day, until our bums go numb, our knees creek and we walk like John Wayne!

But it's all worth it because we will make a difference to three cancer charities:

BREAST CANCER CARE:

Every year 46,000 women and men receive the devastating news that they have breast cancer. The money we raise will help this charity to be there for each and every one of these men and women by providing expertise, emotional support and practical advice.

JO'S CERVICAL CANCER TRUST:

This charity is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting women affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer. Nearly three women die every day in the UK from cervical cancer, with eight more being diagnosed with the disease.

OVARIAN CANCER ACTION:

Ovarian cancer is the biggest gynaecological killer of women in the UK. 12 women die each day from the disease in the UK. It has one of the lowest rates of survival in developed countries. The money raised will support this charity to raise awareness of the disease and research how to increase the survival rate.

One last thing that we would like to highlight is that at some point in our lives, cancer will effect us. It will shatter our world, or the world of someone we know. We urge you to be proactive by supporting these charities so that they can continue their essential work of supporting people diagnosed with cancer, and researching ways in which survival rates can be improved.

Please...WE NEED YOU...you can make a difference.

We will coordinate all sorts of fundraising events over the next year to made progress towards our ambitious target of £5,600- but there is no way we can surpass the total without your generosity and individual support.

PLEASE DIG DEEP...MAKE A DIFFERENCE
