Story
Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page.
Having completed the Three Peaks last year, I wanted a new challenge. As there isn't a Nine Peaks challenge (!), I chose to raise the bar a bit more and do the 15 Peaks. There are 15 Peaks in the North Welsh mountains over 3,000 feet and between 15th and 17th June 2012, I will be walking, climbing and falling down them as quickly as I can.
I am walking on behalf of Down's Syndrome London (DSL), a totally unique organisation in the UK which supports children with Down's Syndrome and their families. The therapists are highly specialised in the area of DS and provide a unique early intervention service (speech and language therapy, physiotheraphy and occupational therapy) which really benefits children aged 0-6 years. Demand for this free service far outweighs supply and parents find it is a lifeline not just to invaluable therapy but to information and each other. No less important are the many children who, through therapy, are able to fully communicate and socially integrate.
Heavily fortified by chocolate (any excuse!), I completed last year's Three Peaks challenge in 21 hours, 26 minutes and I am hoping to do this one in less than 29 hours over three days which is going to be a massive test of stamina, both physical and mental.
I have just had to bin my 15 year old extremely heavy leather walking boots (in which I did the Three Peaks), and much to my daughters' embarrassment, I am now wearing my new boots on the school run (not really the height of fashion!) in order to wear them in. My companions on the walk are my sister Jo, her friend Bella, my oldest friend (not literally old) Millie, Mike (who we met during the Three Peaks) and his friend John. It will be a fab team, led by our guide Adam.
This is in aid of a fantastic cause and your support is much appreciated.
