We're the UK’s only youth-focused breast cancer awareness charity, on a mission to get every young person checking their chest. We want all young people to know the signs and see their GP if they notice any changes. We do this because early detection saves lives.

Story

<p>Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</p> <p>UPDATE</p> <p>I did it! well only just! I somehow made it to the first summit after 8 hours of vertical climbing where I saw the sun rising in all its splendour. I didn't unfortunately make it to Uruhu as the altitude sickness had really kicked in and being sick, yet again, at the feet of the head guide didn't help my cause and so I was packed off down the mountain. But hopefully no one will be demanding their money back! Your donations have been absolutely amazing and so generous, thank you all!! xxx&nbsp;</p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">In June 2008 a girl called Kristin aged 23, found a lump in her breast.&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">She was young with no history of cancer in the family.&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">The doctor told her not to worry as it was surely nothing and sent her away.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">8 months later the lump had grown and this time she wouldn&rsquo;t let the doctor send her away.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Kristin was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer which had spread from the lymph nodes into the spine.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad; min-height: 16.0px;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">In August 2009 aged 37, I found a lump in my breast.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I was young with no history of cancer in the family. &nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">The doctor told me not to worry as it was surely nothing.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">But to be on the safe side he sent me for a mammogram and a biopsy.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer which had spread to the lymph nodes but no further.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad; min-height: 16.0px;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Our two stories started in the same way but the difference was simply that I had a doctor who referred me immediately and she didn&rsquo;t.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad; min-height: 16.0px;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">With cancer, time is such a critical factor and early diagnosis is vital.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad; min-height: 16.0px;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Since being diagnosed, Kristin has devoted her life to Coppafeel, a most fantastic charity that she founded whose number one goal is to give young people the message that breast cancer does not discriminate and so early diagnosis by self examination is vital.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad; min-height: 16.0px;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Baghdad;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I will be setting off to climb kilimanjaro on the 14th January 2011 with a very dear friend Krista who was also diagnosed with breast cancer the year before me. Together we will egg each other on and carry each other if we have to in order to get to the summit and get our photo on top of the world wearing our Coppafeel t-shirts!! Please support me and give what ever you can to give Coppafeel all the help they can to carry on their amazing work because early diagnosis is still by far the most powerful weapon against cancer.</span></p> <div><span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><br /></span></div> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
