Story

"GLASGOW CARES" - Medical Aid for Refugees

Like many people around the world, we have been moved to take action after seeing the shocking images of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi, who drowned while trying to reach Greece with his family.

Anas Sarwar has founded the “Glasgow Cares” appeal, a partnership between the Ucare Foundation and the International Rescue Committee (IRC). We have set an ambitious target of raising £35,000 within the next two weeks in order to acquire and then deliver two ambulances to the Greek Island of Lesvos.

There are 4000 refugees arriving every day on Lesvos. Currently, there is no immediate health provision. As the weather starts to turn there is an increasing incidence of hypothermia, people with mild fractures and other medical problems. There are currently only 2 or 3 ambulances on the entire island, which is obviously prioritised for local residents.

Ucare Foundation will be purchasing the ambulances and providing them to the IRC, who will be teaming them up with full time paramedics and medical support staff.

These ambulances will proudly display "Glasgow Cares" so that those families arriving can see that the people of this great country care and are holding out a hand in friendship.

Thank you for your continued generosity.

"Amazing new today that the Rangers and Celtic charity Foundation have committed to buy one ambulance each.

It means that every penny donated now can be spent on vital equipment and supplies.

Thank you Glasgow!"
