Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sunday 29th April

Today I ran the first Milton Keynes marathon which started and finished at stadiummk. The weather was absolutely abysmal and several bits of the course were flooded. Again, I ran the whole way, this time in 4:16:42. So I made it round in about 10 minutes less than last week.

The unseasonal cold, wind and rain made life very difficult for the 3,000 or so runners who started. But it must have been just as miserable for Debbie and all of the other marshalls who helped to guide us round the route and all the supporters who tracked their friends and loved ones around the course. I'd like to send a great big 'Thank you' to all of them for giving their time so selflessly.

Having now run my first two marathons in the space of only eight days(!) I'm going to leave my running shoes in the garage for a while!

I'd like to dedicate today's run to two very special ladies who have lost their lives since I started the London Marathon last Sunday. To Claire Squires who collapsed and died running up Birdcage Walk and to Eileen Baldwin who passed away this morning at Willen Hospice. Both were much-loved and will be sadly missed.

+++++++++++++++++++

Monday 23rd April

Well, I've done it! What a great day! The crowds, the atmosphere, the entertainment and the venue were all brilliant! I completed the race in 4:25:30 and take great pride in running it all from start to finish.

The only black spot of the day was the sad death of fellow Samaritans runner Claire Squires. If only I'd been five minutes or so earlier at Greenwich, I'd probably have met her at the Samaritans team photo.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support. If you're ever offered the chance top take part, do it! It's hard going but such an experience!

Glenn

+++++++++++++++++++

After all those years of watching others do it on TV, I'm going to be running (and perhaps walking or staggering a bit!) the London Marathon - scaree! For years I've watched others and thought "I should really have a go at that". So when the notice appeared at work in January asking if anyone wanted to run, I decided I had to either put up or shut up! This is Olympic year and chances to take part in this event are so rare - I just had to go for it. So, here I am in training! On the way, I ran in the freezing cold of the Milton Keynes Half Marathon on Sunday 4th March (1hr 52min). I also ran in the Oakley 20-mile race on Sunday 1st April in a time of 3hr 4min which I was quite happy with - I haven't run that far before!

Word of this training seems to have got out. See this for more info: http://www.marathonnewstv.com/?f=Glenn&l=Dickinson&ch=Oxford%20Samaritans&n=1

I'm running on behalf of The Samaritans. As a bonus for everyone who makes a donation, I'm giving access to a book that I've put together specially. This is a compilation of quizzes and puzzles that I've created over the years and is just a way of giving something back in return for your hard-earned cash. You might have seen one or two of them before, but there are also a lot of new ones for you to try. I hope you enjoy at least some of them. Details of how to access the book will be in the acknowledgement message when your donation is logged - so don't lose it!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
