Story

It's been nearly four years since I did a race for charity, so I'm afraid I'm going to be pestering you for your aid once more...

THE RACES

I'm competing in the Stafford Half Marathon 2010 and the Swaledale Marathon 2010 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The Stafford HM is a 13.1 mile on road event attracting 2000 competitors. The Swaledale Marathon is a tougher ask; 24 miles and over 4000ft of ascent in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

THE REQUEST

Unsurprisingly, given this is a sponsorship page, I'm asking for your assistance in helping me reach my fundraising target of £500.00. Cliche though it is, every little does make a difference, so even if you can only afford a couple of pounds, please do give. I'm not simply asking you for your hard earned cash and giving nothing myself though- whatever position I come in each race, I will contribute the equivalent in sponsorship money (so if I come 100th and 50th respectively, I'll contribute £150.00). If I break my ankle and finish last, I'll be looking at a couple of thousand pounds, so it's a risky pledge.

You're welcome to give me cash or a cheque in person, but it's probably easier to donate via this page.

THE CHARITY

The harsh reality is that at some stage or another, almost everyone will know someone close to them who will be affected by cancer. Macmillan provide complete support, both financial and medical, to those suffering from cancer, whilst at the same time lobbying the government for better cancer care. They seek to reach and improve the lives of anyone suffering with cancer, and in particular offer invaluable support at a grim time to those who might otherwise have nowhere to turn. There are few causes more worthy of our support.
