Story

John Caddy writes:-

We rarely think of the Air Ambulance Service or see them in action, but every day they are involved in life saving activities.

Last summer a friend of my wife’s had an accident which has resulted in her being paralysed from the chest down. Her life was saved by the prompt attention of the Air Ambulance and their highly trained team, who arrived quickly, stabilized her and got her to Kings College Hospital in a very short time. As the accident happened in the grounds of Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, owned by the National Trust, they have been extremely generous in allowing an event in aid of the Air Ambulance to be organised on their land, by my wife Cherry and her friend Anne Harries, which will take the form of a Sheep Dog Trial and Country Day on Sunday 16 September 2012.

In support of their fund raising efforts, I am attempting to “Go the Extra Mile” by driving my 1931 Austin Seven Box Saloon to John O’Groats, Lands End and back, around 2350 miles at Easter with my co-driver Guy Barnard. Guy will be writing a daily blog on our progress and his first experience of an Austin 7, which you can follow on www.opieoils.co.uk Facebook page.

We are scheduled to leave John O’Groats on Saturday 7 April and arrive at Lands End on Wednesday 10 April 2012

I would like to offer you the opportunity to either sponsor me on a per mile basis or make a donation to the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Service.
