Story
Gracie was a fit and healthy 18 month old girl but in November 2007 she contracted Meningococcal Septicaemia (Bacterial Meningitis).
Gracie started feeling unwell on the Friday evening, we took her to Whipps Cross A&E because she had a nasty cough and they diagnosed a chest infection. We returned home with their instruction to give Paracetamol and settled for the night, it was during a nappy change in the night that we spotted a rash. We rang 999 straight away and the ambulance took us back to A&E. The doctor said he thought it was Meningitis and everybody worked very hard to bring it under control but the speed of it was shocking, within 15 minutes the rash had gone from being small spots to covering most of her body. The CATS team were called to transfer her to Great Ormond St for specialist care but sadly she died a couple of hours after arriving there. The doctors at Great Ormond Street told us that having the chest infection probably allowed the Meningitis bacteria to enter her blood stream and when Meningitis works at that speed sometimes there is just nothing that can be done but without the CATS team Gracie wouldn't of even had a chance.
Please help us raise money for CATS in memory of my beautiful Gracie May Bluebell Langston.
