Story

Firstly a big THANK YOU to all of those who have already supported this wonderful charity.

2010 activities helped to raise a whopping £4486 for the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC).

2011 activities helped to raise a fantastic £3790 for CBTRC.

Our 2012 plan is to continue with the fundraising efforts for this worthy cause, which remains very close to our hearts. We will also be supporting other charities via our Gracie’s Guardian Angels fundraising team.  As we get the wheels in motion to register ourselves as a charity we will divide our sponsorship between CBTRC, Helen and Douglas House Hospice, Oxford Children’s Hospital and Ronald MacDonald House.  All amazing and worthwhile causes close to our hearts.  All monies through this page go direct to CBTRC.

Many of you know why this is one of our chosen causes, but for those who don’t, raising money for CBTRC is in honour of a very special little lady, Grace Louise Turner, who sadly died aged 5 on 13th May 2009, having only been diagnosed with multiple brain tumours 11 weeks earlier.

Brain Tumours account for 25% of all cancers in Children.  Only half the children affected by a brain tumour can be cured and nearly all survivors will have major difficulties with their quality of life.  More needs to be done to offer hope.

There have been very little advancement in the treatment of certain types of brain tumours in the past 20+ years and without radical research which costs lots of money, beautiful children will continue to lose their lives.

Gracie’s Guardian Angels’ are the friends and family of Gracie and it is our mission to help raise awareness and funds.  The local community has shown such wonderful support for our fundraising and we are pleased to report on some of the events we have organised with great success because of everyone’s generosity...

Grace Turner Trophy Cup May 2012 – Another very successful football match, auction, raffle, disco and fundraising day in memory of Gracie.  Fundraising was split between Helen and Douglas House, GGA and also a generous donation was made towards the Connor Whipp Appeal for a little 4 year old boy fighting a brain tumour.

October 2011 HGSA Children’s Playground – Working with Forrester’s we were honoured with a grant to add to the GGA funds and to erect a children’s playground at Holmer Green Sports Club.  Many members and friends across the community pulled together for this amazing day of building and gardening.  The playground was officially opened by Gracie’s brother Tom!

July 2011 SUNWALK… The girls entered again for another foot and leg battering.  A half marathon walking in London in our bras in aid of Breast Cancer and CBTRC.  Of course we finished this walk with a good old knees up!

Royal Wedding Celebrations April 2011 at Holmer Green Sport Club

A great community event and all the profits were split 50/50 between the Holmer Green Sports Club Playground Fund (in loving memory of Grace) and The CBTRC.  The event included:

Showing of the Royal Wedding on the Big Screen TV, Raffle, Bouncy Castle/Slides/Coconut Shy, Wellie Wanging, Face Painting, Beat the Goalie; Hook a Duck, Boy and Girls Tombola, Ice cream and sweets stall, Bacon Rolls, Hot dogs, afternoon cream teas and much more.  Everyone made the most of the bank holiday, was proud of the country and community and raised money for a very worthy cause.

There are over 50 experts at the CBTRC working with The University of Nottingham, towards improving understanding of the disease and developing innovative new treatments to help find a cure whilst minimising the risk of disability.

Please give generously to help these very clever people save other people’s children.

Thank you all for your support, it means so much!

Yours with love, blisters and hangovers
