My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those who do not know, my two year-old twin daughter, Abigail, was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.  Spina Bifida occurs very early in pregnancy, when the spine and brain are forming and there is no known cure.  One or more vertebrae in the spine fail to close properly, which means that the spinal cord and nerves that run through it are often damaged.  This can cause paralysis below the level of the fault.  In addition, at least 90% of babies born with spina bifida have hydrocephalus.  This is where fluid on the brain fails to drain away as it should, so treatment involves the insertion of a fine tube into the brain to allow this to happen.  As a family we have received exceptional support from the Scottish Spina Bifida Association and for this reason, myself, my younger brother, Neil and best friend Paul, have decided to cycle the 96 miles that is the West Highland Way (from Fort William to Milngavie), ON THE 13TH JUNE 2011, to raise money that will go directly to the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, a worthy charity, who supports over 3,000 children, young people, adults and their families across Scotland who are affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.  It costs nearly £1million to run their extensive Family Support Service annually, and with less than 1% in government funding your support really will help make a difference.

So please dig deep and donate now.
