Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2010, I was leaving work and someone in the lift mentioned they were running the marathon that Sunday. "Goodness" I said, "I don't think I've run 26 miles in the last year!" This year, I decided to get a little bit fitter and ran a 5km race - just! However, the running bug was back and I decided I would like to run the marathon in the Olympic year and raise some money for a very worthwhile cause - The Lily Foundation.
Lily was my colleague's niece who very sadly passed away aged just 8 months from a fatal metabolic disorder called Mitochondrial disease. Mitochondrial disease is more common than you would think, estimated to be 1 in 1000 births. The Lily Foundation is a small charity and your money can help support the development of a new gene testing program at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital to establish the causes of the disease, to speed diagnosis for families in the UK and to progress vital research to find a cure for Mitochondrial disease. The Foundation will also provide funding to support parent accomodation around the country, to provide a home from home environment for families to stay close to their sick children
I will be updating this page from time to time with my training progress and fund-raising events.
Thank you,
Graeme
