The Hospice helps people to live their precious lives well. Our care has many forms – at home, in our outpatient Spring Centre or through specialised care in one of our Hospice beds - and is defined by each person's need. We rely on donations to raise the £5m we need each year to fund our free care.

Story

On the 31st March 2015, my Granpad, Paddy Delaney, was admitted to the Hospice of St Francis, where he died later that evening. Despite only a short stay, the care and compassion he received there, and the support that we have all experienced as a family since, has been incredible. The Hospice of St Francis managed to make an awful situation that little bit more bearable.

So, to raise money for this outstanding cause, I’m running the Tough Guy half marathon on the 26th April; a race over 13 miles long, and with 500 obstacles; including fire, barbed wire, electric shocks and lots of mud! As someone who came last in cross country races at school, I can assure you that this is going to be an enormous challenge for me, but hopefully one that can do some real good!

The NHS only counts for just 17% of the Hospice of St Francis’ overall funding, so they have to rely on fundraising such as this to continue their amazing work.

£500 will pay for an entire afternoon of nursing staff, specialist medical care, emotional support, meals, spiritual guidance, physiotherapy and more. This is exactly what we benefitted from, so it seems only fitting that I should try and raise enough money so that another family might receive that same level of help, comfort and compassion.

Any money you feel you can afford to donate would be absolutely brilliant.

Thank you in advance for your support.
