Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been asked by a charity known as the Brittle Bone Society, founded in Dundee, Scotland, in 1968, which to some of you will be very unknown to you compared to some of the charities around these days doing some fantastic work on there chosen area and raising good money for there cause.
I'm currently 29 years and unlike my three brothers I have been fortunate enough not to have, OI, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bones). having only ever broken my fingers when I was younger as a result of falling out of bed. The charity is exactly what it says on the tin, Brittle Bones, the paragraph below is taken from the UK website to give you an idea in a nutshell what OI is.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic condition present from birth. Medical care for a person with OI requires a variety of interventions.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder of collagen, a protein which forms the framework for the bone structure. In OI the collagen may be of poor quality, or there may just not be enough to support the mineral structure of the bones. This makes the bones weak and fragile and results in the bones being liable to fracture at anytime even without trauma.
Each time a bone is broken and set it will heal in a position slightly less than perfect and the same bone may often break repeatedly.
As the composition of collagen in the bone is not correct, even when there are no fractures there will be other problems connected to the condition.
There are various types of OI which in details can be found the Brittle Bone Society website http://www.brittlebone.org/index.html and exactly what they do and how they do can be found here
I have indirectly lived with Brittle Bones all my life being the oldest of five siblings, all three of my brothers were born with OI and every single one of them was born with broken lowers limbs, and throughout there lives, Gareth 28 years old, James 27 years old and Richard 22 years old, have had numerous brakes to there legs with lots of visits to hospital not only in out local area but nationally also. having watched how tough an painful life often is for them all, and how lucky I was to be able to run around a football pitch, they have never stopped laughing and in my terms have cracked on with it.
All ask is you take a look at what a great charity this is, donate as much as you can spare and see what a worthwhile cause you will be helping, please take a look at the website http://www.brittlebone.org/index.html
