Story
I did it and have the blisters to prove it! Don't ever buy Compeed blister strips by the way - they're useless. Now I thought the Henley Half Marathon was going to be a flat run along the river....but if you are ever in the area go and visit the picturesque village of Fawley which I discovered on Sunday, it must be the highest point in Berkshire! As I "ran" up the hill I was really pleased to overtake one or two of the fast walkers.....just.
I recorded a time of 1 hour 57 minutes which initially I was really pleased with. I've just been on the results website however and discovered that I've got a long way to go until I can officially call myself a long distance runner - I came 941st out of 1,500 runners and was beaten by 21 runners from the over 60s category!
Thanks again for your kind donations, both the Alzheimers Society and myself are really grateful.
Cheers,
Greg
Well I made it up to Newcastle and managed to watch the run on TV and then mingle with all the runners on the train back home...but didn't manage to run myself. It's the Monday afterwards and I'm sitting at home with flu which I've been suffering with since Saturday. It's a huge disappointment.
But not to worry, your sponsorship is not in vain as instead I intend running in the Henley Half Marathon on Sunday 11th October. The bad news is that because noone's heard of it I'll probably be up against all the speedy local club runners. The good news is that noone will be taking my photo and there'll be zero chance of appearing on TV.
Next upate after Henley on 11.10,
Cheers,
Greg.
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
Amazing I know, at my age and with my fat tummy...13 miles alongside the River Tyne in the fog and the rain. Still, might get to meet Gazza or Cheryl Cole...!!
I'm raising money for Alzheimers and would appreciate any donation you can give,
Many thanks,
Greg
