Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

Age UK Hertfordshire is one of the largest charities providing services to older people in Hertfordshire, supporting over 10,000 people each year. Our objectives are to alleviate loneliness and isolation, tackle poverty and inequalities and build resilience within communities in Hertfordshire.

Story

Mmmmmm....not another charity raising event by Greg I hear you cry....

Well blame the London Marathon ballot for allowing me entry this year and giving me the ideal opportunity to raise some good hard cash for Roche's charity of the year - Age UK! :-) Unlike the Loch Ness marathon, there will be no fancy dress, chaffing or pain, just good wholesome running.........

I have decided to support our local branch in Hertfordshire. In Hertfordshire there are 203,438 older people over the age of 60. The older population in Hertfordshire is expanding at a tremendous rate. Expectations about quality of life and services, quite rightly, are being raised. Older people, especially those living alone, in poor health or in poverty, may face a variety of problems, such as isolation and loneliness; an inability to get out; reliance on others for shopping and transport; fear of crime and lack of hope for the future. To tackle these issues, and many others, Age UK Hertfordshire offers a wide range of services which provide information, advice, practical support and social inclusion to older people and their carers throughout the county and demand for our services has never been greater.

Any support is truly appreciated and thank you.
