Hello All!

In November of this year I will be trekking through the Himalayas, the culmination of this trip will be reaching Everest Base Camp. I have always enjoyed the outdoors and am continually amazed at what nature has to offer. Having been quite susceptible to altitude sickness in the past, I expect this to be challenging, but hopefully a lot of fun as well! The trip will last just over 3 weeks and will take our group to South Base Camp (in Nepal) which is at an altitude of just under 18,000 ft.

I thought this trip would be a good opportunity to raise some money, and exposure for a charity which means a great deal to me. The Cardinal Hume Centre is a relatively small charity based in Victoria, London. Its primary aim is to help young homeless people and poorly housed families. The charity was set up by the late Cardinal Basil Hume (Head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales from 1976 – 1999) in 1986. He saw a huge amount of homeless people in the borough of Westminster and decided to set up this charity to help combat the problem. The charity offers help to people from all faiths, backgrounds and cultures and having been involved with the CHC (albeit in a small capacity) on a voluntary basis I can testify to the good work that is done each day. Feel free to visit the website to find out more, however I would like to finish with a quote from the Centre’s mission statement:

‘We strive towards a society where every individual has a safe place to live and the right to access the support and opportunities they need to fulfil their potential.’

Oh....and please give generously!!!!!  Many thanks!!

Gregory
