To follow on from the 2013 event, Grow it, Carve it, Cook it, Compost it was ran again in 2014 on the 30th October at The Crossings Centre in Worksop. Staff ran a tombola for Variety.
To add some tangy, tasty, creative fun to the half term holiday Veolia Environmental Services (Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste management contractor) are hosting an event all about the seasonal favourite – the Pumpkin on Thursday 24th October, 11am – 3pm at Westdale Lane Community Centre, Westdale Lane, Mapperley, Nottingham, NG3 6ES
The Free event will show you how to grow pumpkins, with seeds available for planting in spring. There will be an opportunity to have a go at carving a pumpkin, Taste some yummy pumpkin recipes including soup, pasta and muffins from home economist Teresa Bovey and learn how the discarded middles from a carved pumpkin can be turned into tasty dishes. Make a pumpkin seed bird feeder with Rushcliffe Play Forum, and Nottinghamshire County Council’s Compost Doctor Lydia Powles will also be on hand with hints and tips on how best to compost your food and garden waste at home
There will also be a refreshments and cake stand and a tombola fundraising for Veolia Environnement UK’s charity of the year – Variety.
Victoria Moore, Communications Officer for Veolia Environmental Services said: "’Grow it, carve it, cook it, compost it!’ is an ideal opportunity to show how one item can be used and enjoyed in lots of different ways before going full circle and being composted to make nutrients to grow pumpkins for the next year. “
