Story
In 1997 rugby teams Brive and Pontypridd were involved in a heated encounter during a Cup match, which became known as the infamous Battle of Brive. Mencap Cymru is reconnecting the two towns by organising a gruelling 580mile charity cycle ride from Pontypridd to Brive.
The money raised in the challenge will help us campaign against learning disability hate crime. Many people become victims of attacks, thefts and bullying all because they have a learning disability. We can provide support to individuals who have experienced abuse, and help them report it to the police.
The challenge open to all levels of fitness and to those wanting to get fit!
It all kicks off on Saturday 20th April 2013 at 9am from Sardis Road, Pontypridd
The cyclists will arrive on Saturday 27th April in time for the last home game of the season at Brive. Supporters from both sides are welcome to come along and cheer at the finish line. Everyone is then invited to a traditional Correzien barbecue and dance in the evening.
During the event, I will be the team Physiotherapist dealing with whatever comes my way!
Although I have watched the Tour de France on the television over the years, this will be my first taste of road cycling and am looking forward to picking up the pieces.
Following a few clinical placements at University, I experienced at first hand the impact that Mencap has as an organisation and am looking forward to working closely with the charity over the next few months.
This is a truly invaluable cause, so please dig deep and every penny counts.
