My story

Well I finally made it last Sunday I finished my first ever Marathon in completing the New York Marathon in 4 hours 10 mins. In doing so I raised over £4,000 for Get Kids Going. So I made one out of my two targets! It was a truely memorable weekend in NY and I was fortunate enoug to have Lulu and EJ there with me to experince it as a family. The atmosphere and the crowds I will never forget they helped me to finish what was a tough first race. The journey was not only the race it was about getting fit and changing the work/life balance and i hope to keep that up.

I learnt a lot from my first race namely despite good advice dont get carried away and go out too fast and take on more fluids earlier in the race. Both things may have stopped me hitting the wall after 19 miles and getting cramps which made my last 7 miles tough and slow! The other thing is choose an easier course!

So I wanted to thank all off you for your kind donations and as importantly support without which I would not have completed my journey. The messages of support helped me on the day and as importatly during the long months of training. So most importanly we raised £4,000 for some deserving underprivaledged children which makes it all the more worthwhile. I will make up the difference for those of you who sponsored me to break 4 hours.

So for those of you who know me well as I did not make one of my targets I have madly decided to not hang my running shoes up and will look for another race to break that magical number

Thanks for your support, Guy

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well I have reached the big 50 so all that is left is to finish the New York Marathon! The training has had its ups and downs after a achilles heel problem but at the moment I'm in full training with only 4 weeks to go so baring any last minute injuries I will be on the starting line.

As some of you may be aware I have entered to run my first ever full Marathon in New York, in November, when I will have reached the magical age of 50!

I have watched the London Marathon for years saying it would be great to complete a race like this and have finally plucked up the courage to enter one. I chose New York due to the fact that it has the highest number of spectators to cheer me on, to ensure that I finish! I have only taken up running in the last 12 months, so this will be a great challenge and in order to make it even more worthwhile I'm running for the charity 'Get Kids Going'. The organisation helps to get disabled children into sport - further information about this charity can be found on the following website www.getkidsgoing.com.

As this is my first charity event , and you all know that I love to set and beat targets, I would like to raise at least £2,000 for this deserving charity. My other target, if possbile, is to break the 4 hour mark - I have a feeling the charity number may be the easier one to make!
