Story
On June 27th 2010 I am taking part in an abseil from Guy's Hospital Tower and it's very, very high (that's 143m or 469ft or 34 storeys! ), infact it is the highest hospital tower in the world!
Here's a bit of info about why I'm doing it ....
My sister Rachel was diagnosed with a myeloproliferative disorder (MPD) 4 years ago. MPDs are rare blood cancers for which there is presently no cure. They can cause debilitating fatigue, blood clots, stroke, heart attack, recurrent miscarriage and increase in risk of leukaemia or bone marrow failure. These blood disorders can affect people of all ages, they are not "sexy" or well known which can make it hard for the patients and families to find the right level of support. That is why MPD-Support was set up a few years ago, it is a fantastic support group for patients and families, and Rachel has recently become involved with fundraising.
Of course ultimately we want a cure to be found for MPDs, and for that to happen it is vital that research into the diseases can be undertaken, drugs trials must be run and for these to happen we need ... money!
Rachel is organising this abseil event, she has found over 40 people to take part, and we're all going for it in a big way for MPD-Support.
Please, visit the website for more information at www.mpd-support.com, and please support me in my very, very high abseil in June!
Thank you.
