Story

With a peak at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet above sea level, Mt Kilimanjaro is Africas highest peak and will take an 8 day trek to reach the summit and back.

On the 31st August 2012 we shall be taking on this challenge which as anyone who saw the sport relief effort will know it is no mean feat. Roman Abramovich collapsed attempting this in 2009 so it will be a test or mental and physical stamina.

Whilst this is something i have wanted to do for a while, it gives the opportunity to support a charity that i have fundraised for in the past in Australia. The Fred Hollows foundation ( www.hollows.org.uk ) provides simple cataract operations across the globe. Over the last 20 yrs they have performed 1 million cataract operations, trained 30,000 medical staff, screened 6.5 million people for eye problems, and build or upgraded 119 eye clinics in over 30 countries.

Kids as young as 6 yrs old go blind and over 60% die within 12 months of contracting cataracts and all it takes is a 20 minute operation costing £11 to remove them and return sight to the blind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdxTjxuuD0Q

It is a great cause and for the cost of 2 Starbucks coffees, you can be responsible for returning sight to a child so they can have a future and go to school, a parent who has never seen their own kids before ( literally ) the repurcussions are immense.

So if you are able to chip in whatever you can please do

Thanks
