Cardiac Risk in the Young Verified by JustGiving
RCN 1050845 (England & Wales), SC052581 (Scotland)
Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Welcome to my JustGiving page. on 12th May I am setting off on the London to Paris Bike ride in aid of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), and looking to cover the 550 km to Paris over the following 4 days. Easy to type, but when you think of it as cyling London to Brighton, plus 25 miles, 4 days in a row it becomes a bit more daunting!

CRY seeks to raise awareness of and improve screening for Cardiac Risk in young people for symptoms that lead to Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) and Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS, SADS). THese can impact seemingly healthy individuals and there have been a number of reported cases of footballers who have died whilts playing. Better screening alerts indiviuduals to the risk and allow them to take mitiigating measures, which in some cases results in them having to give up sport.

Those of you that know me will know that I am very keen on sport, and indeed coach an Under 8 football team - the thought that one of those kids may suffer one of these conditions is one that worries me greatly.

This trip is funded by the charity and consequently I will be making a donation of at least £300 myself to cover the cost of the trip, which is additional to the amount colllected here.

Many many thanks for your support.
