***TARGET INCREASED (AGAIN) TO £5000***

***TARGET INCREASED TO £2000***
**DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, I HAVE INCREASED THE TARGET TO £1000. WE CAN REACH IT**

On 12th January 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the island of Haiti, just 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince (the islands largest city).  I read about this devastating earthquake, and saw the horrific images on the news and though there must be something I can do.

I discovered the 'Haiti Hospital Appeal', a charity that has up until now been dedicated to improving the quality of medical care available to the people of Haiti.  In light of the recent earthquake, the HHA sent out a desperate plea for funds to help the thousands of injured citizens who are in desperate need of medical attention...

"The HAITI Hospital Appeal is actively seeking to assist victims and their families in relation to the recent earthquake. We aim to help with the immediate despatch  of a small team in order to aid the relief effort in Port Au Prince. We expect a huge influx of refugees in the North of HAITI where we are based. We will provide medical assistance and aid as much as we are capable. We need to continue to strive to complete the hospital so we are better placed to serve the people of HAITI long term". Visit: http://haitihospitalappeal.org/ for more information.

If like me you saw the news and wished there was something you could do to help donate a £2 today, or however much you can afford and know that you have helped to save a life of someone in desperate need.

The HHA:  In 2007 they opened their first health care centre which provides much needed primary health care to many people, a food distribution and vaccination programme, health education and a 4x4 Ambulance service.  They are now in the process of building a new hospital about 25 minutes from Cap-Haitian, Haiti’s second largest city.  It currently only has one Government run hospital which has to try and serve over 800,000 people.
