Story

Good morning Family, Friends and Children,

On my business trips to in 2006 I was shocked by the poverty and hopelessness of the lives of so many children, so much so that I promised myself to do something. My first step was to search the web for a small charity that spends all of its money on the children, not administration, and then join them. Done! HEAL – Health and Education for All – A charity for orphans and destitute children in .

Now our goal is to create a huge network of family and friends to be The Family and Friends for 2,000 orphaned and destitute children and raise sufficient funds for Heal to care for them, as if they were our own children.

To start with we are sponsoring two children, brother and sister, in the Village and three Poverty Trap children in the school. This is but a small beginning.

Please join us on this mission and adventure, for adventure it is, to help and be a part of something that will mean so much, not only for the children we help but for us all. Who knows where something like this leads our lives? Arlene and I will be in with Heal in November and December to launch our hands-on involvement. So can we entice you to join us by making a small contribution and pulling in family and friends?

       * Make a contribution no matter how small on http://www.justgiving.com/HEALHopeandHappiness-John-Broadhurst. £2 would be just great, but of course the odd million or two would not go amiss if it is making a hole in your pocket!!!

Make it free by selling something you never use on Ebay or at a boot or garage sale.  £2 in yen, dollars, rupees, euros etc helps us support a child in a remote village school for a week. So the price of a loaf of bread or a pint of beer or a packet of Minstrels or a Mars bar goes a long way. £90 supports a child who lives with his/her parents to go to school for a year; £150 cares for and educates an orphan child for one year in a Heal village. (If you do not use the web contact us and we will sort it out)

      * Invite/implore at least two of your family and friends to join this Family, and encourage them in turn to invite two more family and friends to join us so we can build a pyramid of family and friends who are interested in helping these children and who have the pleasure and fun of seeing things happen. The importance of maintaining the chain is crucial, if we are to achieve the goal and be able to support so many, yet so few children. Do make sure your best mates join in and their mates in turn.

      * Urge your children to join in too!

The goal is to raise £3m for the equivalent of 20,000 children years of TLC (tender loving care). The funds will be used to sponsor children, provide teachers and build a new Heal children’s village.

On this web page you will be able to see who has joined the Family and how close we are to the goal. Hopefully we will become the biggest family and the fastest growing family and hit the Guinness Book of Records!

Remember to encourage your family and best friends to join this great journey. Can you imagine being part of this family? It certainly excites us and heaven knows what the future holds for us, or for the children.

Thanks so much to everyone for your support and keep in touch.

Best wishes,

John and Arlene Broadhurst
