CCIN supports children affected by radiation from Chernobyl. By respite care in the UK or Belarus, child sponsorship, humanitarian aid inc permissible medical goods, building and improvement projects and support an Orphanage, Special Needs School, Kindy & 5 Main Schools in the Kalinkovichi District.

<p><span style="color: #800080;"> <p><em><span style="color: #000000;">Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</span></em></p> <p><span style="color: #000080;"><span style="color: #800080;"><strong>I am raising money to suport the Chernobyl Children in Need charity</strong> <strong>by swimming 42miles (the equivalent of my journey to work).</strong></span>&nbsp; </span></p> </span></p> <p><strong><span style="color: #800080;">************************************************************************</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span style="color: #800080;">PROGRESS UPDATE - </span></strong>as at 16 May, <strong>31 </strong>miles done,<span style="color: #800080;"> <strong>11</strong></span> to go</p> <p>I am well on my way to Swindon.</p> <p><em><span style="color: #800080;">************************************************************************</span></em></p> <p><span style="color: #000080;"><strong>&nbsp;</strong></span>In 1986 there was a catastrophic nuclear accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Northern Ukraine.&nbsp; The resulting fires and steam explosion released at least&nbsp;5% of the radioactive core into the surrounding environment&nbsp;where the effects will continue to be felt for hundreds of years to come.&nbsp;</p> <p>CCIN help&nbsp;children and their families living&nbsp;on contaminated land&nbsp;in Kalinkovichi district&nbsp;of Southern Belarus&nbsp;where the majority of the fallout from the Chernobyl disaster fell.&nbsp; Many of the children suffer from weak immune&nbsp;systems and related&nbsp;illnesses and their families are living in utter poverty.&nbsp;</p> <p><em><span style="color: #800080;">Sponsoring a child provides a decent meal every school day, whilst one month's respite visit to the UK can boost a childs immune system for 2 years.</span></em>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>For my bit, I am going to swim the equivalent of my regular journey to work which is 42 miles (or 68 km in new money).&nbsp;</p> <p>Since it wouldn't be very practical to swim along the M4 I will be using my local swimming pool in Tadley.&nbsp; I will swim the distance in&nbsp;easyish steps of about a mile at a time aiming for at least 2-3 miles per week so I hope to complete the distance in about 4 months&nbsp;give or take.&nbsp;</p> <p>I will update the map on this page regularly so you will be able to see my progress.&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="color: #800080;"><em><strong>Please, please&nbsp;dig deep to help suport this very worthy cause and bring some much needed relief to the children&nbsp;and their families still&nbsp;living in the shadow of Chernobyl.</strong></em></span></p> <p><span style="color: #ee82ee;"><span style="color: #800080;">My collagues at Cable and Wireless Worldwide in Swindon are also involved in collecting items to send to the Ukraine in care packages organised by CCIN.&nbsp; We collect items such as toys, stationary, art and craft supplies, houshold and personal care items.&nbsp; If you would like more information about the scheme or have any items you would like to donate, please contact me for details</span>.</span></p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
