MY STORY// September 2014
My mom has recently been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer which has spread to her liver. Her cancer cannot be cured, is advanced and the hospital have told her to 'get her things in order'. As you can imagine, as a family we have experienced every emotion in a short space of time. I thought I would recognise the symptoms of Lung Cancer sooner as I had lost a close work colleague and my friend's mother to the same disease. The worrying thing is that the symptoms appear to arise when it's too late. I hope to raise awareness for this and I appreciate everyone who supports me in doing so, so thank you in advance.
In December 2013 my mom became ill with 'flu' the symptoms mimicked those that many people were experiencing during the winter bug months. It lingered for more than 3 weeks, some days she felt better and would resume normal activities and then she would be drained and flu like again. After having a persistent chesty cough, breathiness and being violently sick one day, I decided to ask her GP to do a home visit. The surgery refused as she had been de-registered (unbeknown to us) as she hadn't been ill or needed to see a GP since 1999, after begging to no avail my only option was to call an ambulance and I'm glad I did as my we've been told that my mother wouldn't be alive now. She is currently undergoing Chemo to help slow down the progression. My mom gave up smoking 9 years ago following my car accident / operation and complications that followed. People who do not smoke can also develop lung cancer. Be aware of the signs.

Help to beat Lung Cancer.
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. This September, I’m raising money at Shine Night Walk to help Cancer Research UK beat lung cancer sooner.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK. Each year more than 43,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK, and the disease claims almost 35,200 lives.
Although some progress has been made, Cancer Research UK is committed to making further progress. Their scientists and doctors are finding ways to detect lung cancer earlier, and developing new treatments that are more effective and gentler for patients.
Please dig deep and sponsor me. Every pound you donate will help fund their life-saving work.
Gift Aid
