My story

HMS TURBULENT is the second of the Trafalgar Class submarines and was launched in 1982.  As a nuclear powered attack submarine she is capable of taking on a wide range of roles in support of current and future operations.  She is versatile, well equipped and has an exceptional crew that take on any task with pride and determination.  The crew of HMS TURBULENT has adopted the Childrens Hospice South West (CHSW) Precious Lives Appeal as their affiliated charity for the remainder of the submarine’s commission (until July 2012).  Publicly funded, CHSW currently operates two hospices in the South West region, Little Bridge House in Barnstaple and Charlton Farm on the outskirts of Bristol.  The operating cost for these two sites is £6MILLION per annum but sadly a third hospice is much needed.  CHSW established the Precious Lives Appeal in 2009 to raise the £5MILLION required to build Little Harbour in St Austell.  Little Harbour is now complete and will soon provide facilities to families from Plymouth and Cornwall who need hospice care.

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Crew we are now over half way towards our target of £5000. In 2010 members of the Crew participated in various fund-raising events including a collection at a Plymouth Raiders Basketball Match, the Bakers Dozen Bike Ride and the Plymouth Half Marathon.  Whilst deployed to the Indian Oceanin 2011, the Crew raised further funds through a Row the Suez Canal Challenge and Camel Racing Nights.
