Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

A Team of us (Lee Gallagher, Andy Brunton, Chris Davies, Mark Levick, Neil Hastings, Steve Clark, Dean Arey, Gary Hurditch & myself) will be undertaking the Hadrian's Wall Coast to Coast on the weekend of the 6th-8th September 2013. 174 miles over 3 days, 88, 52 and 35 respectively, day 2 being the toughest.

Our aim is to complete it as a group, and in doing so raise as much money as possible for a great charity, Barnsley Hospice.

The Hospice is key to this following the love, care and devotion they provide to all who require them, not just the patients but their families.

We are undertaking this event in memory of two special people who have lost their fight against cancer and were supported by Barnsley Hospice.

My stepdad Frank Bond, was a patient of the Hospice 2 years ago, and received fantastic support through his 4 year battle with lung cancer and bone cancer, before passing away on the 31st July 2011 following a brave fight, only hours after we completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in his name.

Richard Gill, the stepdad of Lee Gallagher who is undertaking this challenge also, lost his fight against Muir-Torre Syndrome, which is a form of intestinal cancer, on the 9th May 2013. Richard, from Wombwell, was only 59 when he died, which was a traumatic time for the family. They all wish to thank the hospice for the fantastic support received during this difficult period. This will be Lee's first biking challenge.

This  Hadrian's Wall Coast to Coast will be about raising money for the Hospice and its volunteers, remembering Frank and Richard, as well as a personal challenge for all taking part.

We ask you to give generously to enable this charity to continue its great work for the people of Barnsley who find themselves faced with dealing with life debilatating illness.

We would also like to thank AquaForce for supplying our support vehicle for the weekend, ensuring we can get the bikes to the start in Ravenglass and from the finish in South Shields, www.aquaforcegroup.co.uk

We would also like to thank AA Taxis for providing the minibus at cost to get us to the start at Revenglass and collect us from the finish. They can be booked on 01226 245555.
