19 July 2010

We did it!  We now have blisters on our blisters and aches and pains in places that should not ache.

It was an almighty challenge and worthy of the toughest amongst us.  I don’t think anyone suspected just how deep we would have to dig to pull off this challenge.

I know that a lot of us just kept imagining that Jaspar and his friends don’t have the luxury of walking and so we would damn well do this for them!!!  It rained, the wind howled and the miles dragged but our spirits flew high.  The Romans must have been mad or madly frightened to build this long and winding wall.  We were all just mad.

The drivers made us fabulous steak sandwiches and rubbed our aching legs.  We had tantrums, tears and ambulances but the team stayed together and finished what we started.

We want to thank everyone who sponsored us and who cared.

The Hadrian's Wall Team

June 2010

People have been walking in Hadrian’s Wall Country for well over 2,000 years.  So we decided to do it for the London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy in London, the school that Jaspar and some of his friends attend each week.

After last year's hugely successful 3 peaks challenge, we thought we would take it a little easier this time (!?).

Hadrian's Wall National Trail is the long-distance footpath made of 84 miles (135 Km) of glorious walking through rugged moorland and rolling fields that runs through this World Heritage Site of which we are hoping to complete a 50 Mile (80 Km) stretch on 17 July 2010.  Most of the team will walk the full 50M/80Km, others 40M/64Km or 30M/48KM stretches and some of us will do it as a tag-team.

Are we all mad??? Yes, we are!  During a brilliant but painful 26 mile practice walk, 4 of us didn't manage to get to the finishing line and had to get a taxi back after 23 miles!  The ones that did finish were hobbling along with incredibly sore legs and feet covered in blisters.  But we were all smiling.

It might be that some of us will only finish part of it, or do it as tag-teams but you can be sure we'll all try our hardest.
