I am a part of the Sheffield University Fundraising For 'Earing Research team (SUFFER) taking part in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain Event. This cycling challenge will see me cycling 450 miles in just 4 days, from Penrith to John O’Groats. I’m doing this to raise money for hearing loss research at the University of Sheffield. Hearing loss is a major public health issue that has an enormous personal, social and economic impact. More than 10 million people in the UK have some level of irreversible hearing loss.
Hearing research has yielded some amazing advances over the past 20 years, including the development of cochlear implants, screening for newborn children and improved hearing aids. The UK has also been a leading player in understanding the genetics of hearing loss.
The University of Sheffield has one of the strongest and best known hearing research groups in the world. With your donations, the research group can purchase vital equipment and resources and train more young researchers. This will help in the battle to find a cure and through our outreach programmes it will help to enlighten as many people as possible to the value of protecting their hearing.
We are cycling for a sound future and your help on this journey will be deeply appreciated.
Don't forget to tick the Gift Aid box if you are a UK taxpayer. It helps the University claim an extra 25% on top of your donation.
