Story

Child abuse is something which I've experienced first hand. I was one of the fortunate kids who, against great odds, pulled through the trials and torment of battling against a bully throughout my entire childhood. Against an abusive step-mother, who was supposed to care for me and be there for me, no matter what.Today I have respect for myself, respect for others and have a great outlook on life.

Unfortunately, child cruelty does exist. There are people out there who, for one reason or another, see fit that they can beat their children and abuse their young ones. They see no harm in the misery they cause and the fear they instill in their fragile children. Children, who far too often grow up with a negative outlook on life, because they were too scared to ask for help and speak of the misery they endured throughout their younger lives from those who they themselves had looked up to.

Child cruelty is something that may never be completely banished as it's very hard for outsiders to know what is going on behind closed doors. It's even harder for a youngster to break the numerous barriers of pain and fear, and speak out against their tormenters. But this charity is here to give children the help they need. It's an extended arm to children in distress, giving them the courage and confidentiality to break free from the cycle of abuse, violence, fear and torment. Childline is always there to listen to kids, and help kids who are in the same position I was once in.

My fundraising event involves me getting up at 6.30a.m to suit up and boot up, on St.Patricks day, and walking 10 miles into work from my place by the seaside, all the way into the city centre. This event is my part in ensuring that the support Childline offers is continued. It's my part in raising further the already broad awareness of the organisation, and it's my contribution towards saving innocent children from a miserable life and providing them with great hope and happiness for their future.
