WHY IM DOING IT
Unfortunately, cancer seems to affect nearly all of us in one way or another these days. Worryingly, statistics say 1 in 3 people will get cancer during their lifetime.
Both my parents have recently had cancer treatments, my dad is expecting to finish his bowel cancer chemotherapy in May.
My workmate, Maggie Danaher is currently battling with lung cancer that has unfortunately spread to her brain..
My Aunt Val tragically lost her fight with breast cancer in 2008.
I would like to raise some money to help Cancer Research continue their good work in helping people like my parents.
THE 50 METRE CHALLANGE
This May, during the Olympic year 2012, I will turn 41.
My ambition is to return to athletics, 9 years after a serious knee injury that required major surgery and 16 years after I last threw competitively.
My goal is to throw 50 metres.
Training began in February 2012, so thats just 3 to 6 months I have given myself to achieve this goal.
Typically, this kind of distance would place me about 60th in the UK annual rankings.
IF I DONT ACHEIVE THIS DISTANCE I WILL DONATE £50 MYSELF
BACKGROUND
For those of you who dont know my background, I have been involved with athletics (hammer throw) since the age of 13.
I havent trained, or competed, seriously since 1996
My personal best is 59.68m which I set in 1996
