Ultra Trail South West Golden Hammer Challenge · 22 June 2012

It costs £1,500 per year for every mile of the glorious South West Coast Path to be kept open, safe and clearly signed. We’re asking for your support to help us keep the path open and accessible for all.

Story

The Golden Hammer Challenge aims to raise funding for a project to help the Emergency services quickly get to a casualty on or near the South West Coast Path.

Currently when an accident occurs, the person calling 999 only has a vague idea of where they are, and so valuable time can be wasted by emergency service responders going to the wrong place, or having to search for the casualty. To resolve this problem, it is planned to attach small plaques, engraved with the location and grid reference, on fences and signposts along the entire length of the South West Coast Path.

This will require over 2000 plaques, each of which must be individually nailed into position - a time consuming and painstaking task.  The Golden Hammer Challenge was conceived as a symbolic nod of respect to all those involved and a wink of appreciation for what the project hopes to achieve.

Our relay team, the Hammer Harriers, is competing in the inaugural Golden Hammer challenge running 100 miles from Porthleven to Watergate Bay. Meet the team on the Hammer Harriers team page.
