Story
Hello!
I have recently joined Samaritans and have decided to run the British 10k in July.
Running is most definitely not my strong point but I am eager to complete the 10k in under an hour which for me will be a challenge! So I’m training through lunch breaks and after work hoping to achieve my personal goal.
Over the past three weeks, I have been working with the team to allocate places at events such as The London Marathon and reading stories on why people wish to support Samaritans. I have read some very compelling stories about people of my age, mothers, fathers and sisters who have either lost a relative to suicide or been helped by the support of Samaritans which has changed and saved a someone’s life.
I'm running for this great cause because every 60 seconds, someone with suicidal feelings contacts Samaritans. It costs over £10 million a year to keep the service running, and this comes almost entirely from donations. One of the unique points about Samaritans is that there is some available to talk to round the clock. They also offer outreach programmes to schools, universities, work places, health and welfare services, amongst other communities.
I would be so grateful if you would support Samaritans through my challenge by donating whatever you can afford. It costs just £3.83 to answer a call from someone in distress. And £2 a week to recruit and train one new Samaritans volunteer.
Thank you
Hannah x
