<p>In brief...</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The specific goal of this target is to provide funding for a Haitian athletics coach to be employed to train a group of disabled individuals to enter the London 2012 Paralympics...as the first Haitian team to enter the Paralympics!!</p>

<p>*We need £160 per month to employ a full time athletics coach.*</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The background...</p>
<p> </p>
<p>As you may already know, I spent the last year in Haiti. Amoungst other things, I help to re-establish a rehabilitation unit which was originally set up as a rehab unit for those who suffered spinal injuries during the January 2010 earthquake.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>During this time I also came to understand just how difficult it is to live with a disability in Haiti. There is a huge stigma associated with disability and hardly any infrastructure to help support those with disabilities. I worked with Haiti Hospital Appeal to raise awareness and educate people on what disability is, and to encourage individuals to advocate for one another.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Haiti Hospital Appeal have partnered with several other UK charities to form a campaign called 'The Dream'. Working in association with the National Paralympic Committee of Haiti we are aiming for a group of individuals to enter the Paralympics to help achieve the following aims:</p>
<p> </p>
<p>- Help fight the stigma associated with poeple with disability within Haiti, so communities can provide greater support to those in need.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>- Inspire people all over the world, especially those with disability.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>- Encourage the international community to better respond to the needs of people with disability in the developing world.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>- Provide infrastructure for long-term sporting acitivity, for people with disability in Haiti.</p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p>Right now, what is really needed is the funding to employ a Haitian coach who will provide the essential full time training these guys need.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>It's a priviledge to be part of this fantastic Dream, and you could be too if you are in anyway able to help raise the money for this new position.</p>
