We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

This summer I am cycling over 900 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research. The fight against dementia has been a cause very close to my heart since my grandma, Gookey, was diagnosed with dementia six years ago, and even more so in recent years as the disease has taken hold and we’ve lost more and more of the Gookey we know and love.

I want to do something positive to help Alzheimer’s Research in their mission to fight this terrible disease. Rather than just being a natural part of ageing, dementia is caused by diseases in the brain and affects people young and old. It’s the leading cause of death for women in the UK, but there are no treatments available to stop or even slow the diseases that cause dementia. The money raised by Alzheimer’s Research funds world-class scientific research to defeat dementia and I’d like to do my best to help them in this vital work.

As a triathlete I do quite a lot of cycling but this will be my biggest challenge yet and every time I come across hills when out riding, I do slightly wonder what I've got myself into!
