Story
I'm Harriet Walker, and I'm raising money for the Spurn Head branch of the Yorkshire Wildlife trust.
I am doing my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award this year, and for the service section I am hoping to raise at least £350 for this charity. Spurn Head has a large sentimental value to me, and as I am now not able to visit the reserve as much as I used to, I would like to support the reserve this way.
To raise the money for my donation I will be completing The Lyke Wake Walk, along with my father and some other members of my family. This walk is a complete crossing of the North Yorkshire Moors, along their main east-west watershed.
It is approximately 40 miles long, and is undertaken in one go, with most people walking from Osmotherley on the western side of the North Yorkshire Moors, to Ravenscar on the east coast. There is no official route, as long as you start at the start an end at the finish, keeping as much as is possible to the high ground, you can follow any route.
My father will undertake this walk with me, having already done it four or five times himself, once at quite an early age. The walk passes through different areas of the moors, from the open heather covered hills, to bracken covered fields, and even a part of the walk is done on a section of an old Roman road.
Your donation will help the upkeep of the reserve at Spurn, and will help with the visitor centre. With donations they will be able to put out information around the reserve, with notice boards, and help attract more people. At present the reserve is visited by a large number of bird watchers, but it would be nice for everyone who loves the beach to come and visit.
A donation of around £30 would be ideal, though any donation will be graciously recieved!
