Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For my year as Mayor of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk, I nominated two charities, West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled and West Norfolk Carers, both close to my heart, that I would support throughout my year. Due to Covid, some fundraising events that might have taken place were not possible, so I am taking part in the Parkrun Kings Lynn on Saturday 7th May.

This page is for The Magpie Centre – West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled

Brenda and I have been involved with horses for many years and we have seen the joy of disabled people being with or riding a kind horse. They can have a feeling of control that they might not feel in other ways. The Magpie Centre – West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled enables this and much more, providing therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with disabilities and offering equestrian activities to all age groups and, wherever possible, to people with any disability.

The Magpie Centre – West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled has been operating as a dedicated RDA Riding Centre from Wallington Hall for over 30 years. with the beautiful tracks on the Wallington Estate providing outdoor hacks and carriage drives.

They have over 100 riders and carriage drivers who take part in these sessions which help increase confidence, communication and socialisation skills whilst giving vital exercise and, perhaps most importantly, the chance to have some fun!

They give over 130 riding and carriage driving lessons a week
to people of all ages and abilities supported by over 50 volunteers
from the local community who help in lessons, with the ponies, field
maintenance and fundraising.

It costs around £150,000 a year to keep the Magpie Centre running and much of this money comes from small donations made by members of the public and local businesses.

£5 would pay for a bale of hay - £45 would pay the vet to vaccinate a pony - £75 would buy a set of shoes for a driving horse

The RDA
National
organisation of which West Norfolk RDA is a member is committed to researching and measuring the impact of our activities. This means that our supporters and funders can give with confidence; our volunteers and coaches can understand the difference that they make and most importantly our participants know that they are getting the best possible experience with us.
